In certain circumstances the Java
Applet will process your input on Apple Computers
only slowly. This problem is known about and we
are seeking a solution to it. Close your browser
and restart the course in order to remove this
problem! |

If you work with Microsoft Internet
Explorer, make sure that the Apple Java Virtual
Machine (MRJ) is being used. In order to set this
up, please select in the menu Processing the command
Options. Now click on Java. For Java-VM: please
set to ‘Apple MRJ’ (cf also the following
paragraph). |

Microsoft Internet Explorer executes
Java Applets with the aid of MRJ (Apples Java Virtual
Machine) (see preceding paragraph). If you use this
course with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer,
you will need MRJ 2.1. MRJ is part of Mac OS, but
unfortunately still has got errors in version 2.0.
For example, the inputted text shows up twice. You
can remove this problem by downloading and installing,
for instance, the latest version of the Java Virtual
Machine from the Apple homepage (www.apple.com).
Alternatively, you install MRJ 2.1.2 which can be
found on the CD in folder SSK. |

Unfortunately, there still remain
some storage problems on Apple Computers when working
with Java and JavaScript. The present course is
also affected by this, as it was programmed entirely
in Java and JavaScript. But still so, there are
numerous advantages in comparison with traditional
programming languages. The most important one being
doubtlessly that is does not matter on which computer
platform you wish to go through this course. It
works on PC, Linux, Apple and other systems. In
case of intensive use you might get a system message
saying that there are storage problems. Or you get
a message saying that your browser does not support
Java. In this case just close the browser and start
again. |

When the Applet is loaded for the
first time it may happen that it is not indicated
correctly. Quite a few elements might be missing.
Such incidents usually occur with Mac Computers.

window, a JavaScript error message might come up
in certain circumstances. Click on the Refresh button
to remove this problem. You get the same result
if you switch on or off various toolbars. |

In certain circumstances the yellow
insert mark is not indicated above the letter to
be typed. Make sure in this case that Microsoft
Internet Explorer is set in a way so as to use the
Apple Java Virtual Machine (MRJ). To set this up,
select in the menu Processing the command Options.
Now click on Java. For Java-VM: please set to ‘Apple
MRJ’. |
