Problem: I am unable
to type, not everything appears on the screen. There
is an error message ‘Your browser does not support
Java’. Solution: In order to allow you
to learn through this seminar, you will need a Java-sustainable
browser which also supports JavaScript (Internet
Explorer and Netscape from version 4.0 onwards).
Make sure that the execution of Java Applets is
not suppressed (Menu Extras / Internet Options /
Security / Adjust Level / Java Settings / Low Security).
You will find Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer
(only windows) on the CD-ROM in the ‘Browser’ folder.
Visit the Sun website and install Java:

If you work with Windows, it is necessary
in certain cases to install an updated version of
the Java Virtual Machine. For further information
please refer to:
http://www.microsoft.com/java/vm/dl_vm32.htm.
After you have run a virus check with Norton AntiVirus,
the typing coach might no longer be functioning
correctly in certain system combinations. In such
case the latest virus definition is to be downloaded
from the Internet. For more information please refer

Problem: ö,
ä and ü do not show up. Solution:
You are using an ‘old’ browser version. Install
an updated version of Microsoft Internet Explorer
(http://www.microsoft.de)
or of Netscape Navigator (http://www.netscape.com).
From version 4.0 onwards those problems will no
longer appear. You will find Netscape Navigator
and Internet Explorer on the CD-ROM in the ‘Browser’
folder. |

Problem: the letters show up
next to the yellow cursor. Solution:
This problem occurs if you have deleted the standard
fonts. Make sure that at least the font family Courier
is installed on your system. Under Windows you will
find the corresponding settings in the system controls
(Start/Settings/System Controls/Fonts). |

Question: is
it possible to install my own texts for typing exercises?
Answer: There is a ‘trick’ allowing
you to exercise with your own texts. Search for
the ‘Java’ folder. There you will find individual
small TXT documents. Each one of these TXT documents
is the text of an exercise. For instance, in document
ch-u11-3.txt the text for the Swiss keyboard of
exercise 11 of the touch-typing exercise is stored.
Replace this TXT document with your own text. When
you next call up this part of the exercise, only
your own text will appear. |

Question: is it possible to
learn the German keyboard on a computer with an
English keyboard? Answer: Yes, this
is possible. Just set your desired keyboard in System
Controls / Keyboards / Input / Additions. Your computer
will now use the new keyboard layout. You can now
use the German part of the touch-typing learning
programme. It is, however, not possible to learn
the German keyboard with an English text. |
